Civil Society addresses the ICC Assembly of States Parties during the ASP18 General Debate

The General Debate of the 18th Session of the ICC ASP concluded with interventions from civil society, including the Coalition as well as statements from nine other Coalition members.  The points raised by human rights defenders during the General Debate often inform the decision-making process of States Parties throughout the remainder of the ASP session.

For civil society, the ASP General Debate also serves as a forum to raise concerns that are not prominently featured – if at all – in the ASP agenda. This year was no exception: the Coalition Acting Convenor and its members also addressed the ASP from all regions of the world, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Côte d’Ivoire, the Gambia, Libya, Sudan and Ukraine, touching on the challenges they face in their fight against impunity, their expectations towards the Court and States Parties, including on the need to implement pending arrest warrants and recommendations to ensure victims’ access to justice and redress.
