The Mechanism started its work in February 2021, in coordination with the newly elected ASP presidency , to discuss working methods and plans. had a first meeting on 17 February, with the President of the ASP, aimed at discussing its working methods and plans.

The ASP Bureau is expected to consider and approve the proposed categorization by the end of May, and to consider and approve the proposed action plan by 31 July.

After determining its methods of work, the Mechanism started to engage with all key stakeholders including the Court, States Parties, civil society and the ICC Bar Association in order to receive input on the categorization of the experts recommendations.

The Mechanism will provide regular updates to States Parties throughout the process, via the ASP Bureau and Working Groups. The ad country focal points will also help facilitate discussions in the regional groups.
