GLOBAL CIVIL SOCIETY
The Coalition for the ICC is a global civil society network of member organizations in 150 countries.
We led the successful campaign to set up the International Criminal Court for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. We’re continuing to fight for global justice through national courts and the now well-established ICC in The Hague.
Who we are
In 1995, a group of 25 human rights organizations began campaigning for a permanent international criminal court to hold individuals to account for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. And, against all the odds, it worked. Few imagined where we would end up all these years.
What we do
We're working for a more peaceful world in which all people can access justice for grave crimes. Through the ICC and Rome Statute system of international justice, we can affect long-term change in the protection of human rights at the national, regional, and global levels. Working in partnership with civil society and others around the world, we ensure that the voices of the marginalized are heard and acted upon.
Our story
The combined efforts of global civil society have brought about the historic establishment of the International Criminal Court, helped the Court develop as an institution, convinced over 120 states to accept its jurisdiction, increased state support and cooperation in the Rome Statute system, and ensured strong victims' rights. Accountability for grave crimes is now firmly on the international agenda.
