AFTER TWELVE (12) YEARS OF WAITING, THE AFRICAN FRANCOPHONE COALITIONS FOR THE ICC DEMAND JUSTICE FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE SEPTEMBER 28, 2009 MASSACRES.

Guineans are commemorating the twelve (12) years since the painful massacres of September 28, 2009, with the seizure of power on September 5, 2021, by the National Committee for Rally and Development (CNRD).

For the record, it was the defense and security forces, following the demonstration of the Forces Vives against the candidacy of Mr. Moussa Dadis Camara in the presidential election of January 2010, who were responsible for approximately one hundred and fifty (150) people killed, dozens of women raped, approximately one hundred missing, hundreds of injured, kidnappings, illegal arrests and significant material damages.

The African Francophone Coalitions for the ICC recall that although the information was closed on June 25, 2019, by the Supreme Court, with twelve (12) defendants, approximately four hundred and thirty (430) victims heard, fifteen (15) witnesses heard and the establishment of the Steering Committee for the holding of the trial, it must be recognized that the victims are now impatient for the opening of a fair and inclusive trial.

Also, since the opening of the investigations in February 2010, many victims have died, some are sick and live in absolute poverty. In addition to these sad facts, we must add the situation of women repudiated by their husbands and those infected with HIV, following the rapes of which they were victims, without forgetting the orphaned children who have lost their schooling and who must be normally assisted.

For all these reasons, the African Francophone Coalitions for the ICC (AFC-ICC) launch an urgent call:

To the new Guinean authorities

  • To take the necessary measures for the opening, within a reasonable time, of the trial of the September 28, 2009 massacres;
  • To take the necessary and useful measures to allocate provisional compensation to the victims of the September 28, 2009 massacres;

To the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court

  • To continue to monitor the case of the September 28, 2009 massacres.
