Together for Justice: Meet Beatriz Borges

“Having an international agenda that addresses what is happening in Venezuela is not only about addressing the past, [but it is also about] the future—a future of reparation, truth, memory, but especially of justice, so that these crimes are never committed again.”

Beatriz Borges, Executive Director of the Centro de Justicia y Paz (CEPAZ - Centre of Justice and Peace), highlights the crucial role of international mechanisms in protecting human rights in Venezuela. Beatriz emphasises that activating these mechanisms has been essential in providing hope for justice to the victims of serious human rights violations in Venezuela.

For Beatriz, having an international agenda that addresses the situation in Venezuela is vital. It is not just about addressing past violations and ensuring they are not forgotten, but also about tackling ongoing violations in the present. Moreover, it is about securing a future of reparation, truth, memory, and most importantly, justice. This can ensure that such crimes are never committed again. These international mechanisms have been fundamental in responding to the need for justice and have been key in supporting both organisations and victims in their pursuit of human dignity in Venezuela.
